He picked a huge basket full for me and so I had to think up various ways of using them in my kitchen. Ginger, paprika, cinnamon and cloves add a special flavor. Let me know!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2142\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myblueberrybasket.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/plum-chutney5.png\" alt=\"photo plum and pear chutney\" width=\"450\" height=\"680\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.myblueberrybasket.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/plum-chutney5.png 450w, http:\/\/www.myblueberrybasket.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/plum-chutney5-199x300.png 199w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Plum and Pear Chutney<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">1 kg (2 \u00bc lb) plums, weighed when destoned<br \/>\n300 g (2\/3 lb) onions<br \/>\n2 tablespoons oil<br \/>\n2 pears<br \/>\n250 g (1 \u00bc cups) brown sugar<br \/>\n250 g (1 \u00bc cups) gelling sugar (jam sugar)<br \/>\n160 ml (2\/3 cups) red wine vinegar<br \/>\n\u00bd teaspoon ginger, peeled and finely minced<br \/>\n1 teaspoon paprika powder<br \/>\n\u00bd teaspoon mustard powder<br \/>\n2 pinches ground cinnamon<br \/>\n1 pinch ground cloves<br \/>\n\u00bd teaspoon salt<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Chop the onions and fry in the hot oil in a large pan. Peel the pears and slice them. Quarter the plums. Add the plums, pears and all the other ingredients. Stir carefully and slowly bring to the boil. Simmer over medium to low heat until the chutney starts to gel (about 30-40 minutes). Make the gel test by spooning some chutney on a chilled plate. If the chutney is no longer runny but homogenous then it is time to fill it into sterilized jars.
